Job Description
We have a Layout / Quality technician opening for a solid manufacturing client of ours.   The ideal candidate must have CMM and Calibration experience and the ability to read Blueprints.  

The job qualifications are the following:

  • Checks patterns and castings from new and reworked tooling for compliance to blueprint requirements.
  • Review  layout  design  and  resolve  undefined  details.  Utilize notes,  sketches,  drawings,  engineering specification and verbal instructions.
  • Plan and develop layouts from blueprints and templates, applying knowledge of trigonometry, design, effects of heat, and properties of metals.
  • Compute layout dimensions, and determine and mark reference points on metal stock or work-pieces for further processing, such as welding and assembly.
  • Mark curves, lines, holes, dimensions, and welding symbols onto work-pieces, using scribes, soap-stones, punches, and hand drills.
  • Locate center lines and verify template positions, using measuring instruments such as gauge blocks, height gauges, and dial indicators.
  • Lift and position work-pieces in relation to surface plates, manually or with hoists, and using parallel blocks and angle plates.
  • Plan locations and sequences of cutting, drilling, bending, rolling, punching, and welding operations, using compasses, protractors, dividers, and rules.
  • Provides dimensional inspection reports that are supplied to customers with samples and production castings.
  • Verifies customer dimensional complaints by checking castings and / or pattern tooling.
  • Verify corrections made to present tooling.
  • Comply with established company procedures, standards and instructions while performing various layout technical activities.
  • Provides or assists calibration services of all measuring  tools, which  includes checking  the tools  and maintaining a file of those tools.
  • Support documents for conformance to set design standards and verify completed work.
  • Responsible for departmental safety and housekeeping.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Training in vocational schools, related on-the-job experience, or an associate's degree.
  • Must be willing to work overtime.
  • Basic Computer skills are required.
  • The person needs to be adept in use of Microsoft Office, especially in the use of Word©, Excel©, & Outlook (PowerPoint © a plus).
  • Must be able to read a blueprint and have an understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Must have an understanding of basic gaging and good math skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with formal quality systems would be helpful.
  • Knowledge of basic statistics would be a plus.
  • Knowledge of operating a CMM, especially a programmable CMM would be a plus.
